Fake GHD Websites Shut Down By Police In Raid

Police have took massive action on online fakers and have shut down more than 1,200 internet sites which conned Brits out of millions in a huge shopping scam that has been going on for the last 2 years. Theses sites sold designer goods including ghd hair straighteners, customer who purchased from these site either received fake goods, no goods and some cases had there card details stolen.

It has been reported in the UK press that police officers swooped on the bogus sites in a massive online raid yesterday. But detectives have warned no-one has yet been arrested and the gangs operating the scam are still at large. These website domains and accounts have now been frozen and if you try and visit these websites, you get a message saying either the url is invalid or the site cannot be found. Please beware thought that these faker, may try and set up new websites quickly, so only buy from a approved GHD Retailers.

Experts at Scotland Yard found hundreds of websites run by tricksters selling the fake goods in Asia. They conned shoppers into thinking they were dealing with British sites because their addresses ended “.co.uk”. The crooks offered discount designer goods including GHD Hair Straighteners, Ugg Boots, Tiffany & Co and Links Of London jewellery.

A Met Police spokesman said 1,219 scam websites were closed by investigators working with a company called Nominet, which registers the “.co.uk” website addresses.

People needing advice should contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506. My advice would be, check if the site you bought them from still exists, if it does not, then contact your credit card company ASAP and see if they can cancel the transaction and get your money back…..try and act fast please!!!!!

Please be aware that due to internet laws the UK Police and Trading Standards were only able to shut down websites with a .co.uk domain. That great then, i might here you say, yes its good, but there is nothing to stop the fake GHD websites from using a .com domain name. A .com is global domain, but it can be set as a UK websites – basically it will be treated by search engines, like it was based and the UK. Meaning it will show up in UK search engine results. Just thought i would let you know about this loop hole, and to re-iterate that you should still be wary because there are still many fake GHD websites showing up in the search engines.

Fake GHD Hair Straighteners Seized In Ireland

Just found a article on Gorey Gaurdian website about fake hair straighteners. GHD have issued a warning to the public about counterfeit hair straighteners currently on sale on the black market in the Gorey area, after three were seized at a market in North Wexford last week. The public have been warned to be careful around the festive period as many fakes will show up in local markets

The Gardai and representatives from GHD visited a market in the area last Friday, and seized three counterfeit GHD hair straighteners.

Brendan Cronin, Head of Sales with GHD Ireland said that the counterfeit products can cause problems and be very dangerous. ‘The consumers sometimes aren’t aware they are counterfeit and think they are getting a good deal,’ he said, adding that the quality of the counterfeit product is not as good, with inferior internal workings and electrical features. ‘We see thermostats not working properly and they don’t heat properly,’ he said. ‘Wires can pop out and this can lead to electrocution.’

Superdrug Discovered Selling Fake Pink GHDs

The BBC has reported that Highstreet retailers Superdrug, has had to recall a batch of Fake Pink GHD Hair Straighteners following fears they may not meet minimum electrical safety standards.

Customers who bought Pink GHD IV Stylers with the barcode 5060034524236 between 3 August and 17 September 2008 should return them to their nearest Superdrug store. Using the Fake GHD’s, they risked serious injury and damage to property, the retailer’s spokeswoman said.

Superdrug has apologised to customers and GHD for any inconvenience caused. The hair straighteners had been supplied by a company with no direct relationship to GHD, a Superdrug spokesman said. The retailer had been alerted to the counterfeit batch through a call to customer services, he added. “A customer called in to register her ghds, and the computer wouldn’t recognise her code,” he said.

Superdrug has been selling GHD hair straighteners from the “grey market” for some time and they had no customer complaints, he added. A spokeswoman for ghd said it did not supply the products in question and did not supply unapproved high street retailers. This is a lesson to be learnt, even well kown highstreet retailer can get caught out and just for the record GHD do not supply to the highstreet. So if you see a highstreet retailer selling GHD’s, they did’nt get them directly from GHD. They may not be fake, but you cannot gaurantee they are genuine as this case has proved.

The GHD Spokesperson went on to say that. “The health and safety of our customers is paramount and as such we actively encourage purchase from approved stockists only,” she said.

To ensure you are buying a genuine GHD always buy form a Approved GHD Stockist
